Wealth Shortcuts

The reason you don't personally know a lot of people is because of your brain.

The reason most of the six billion people you don't know are grouped into categories is because of your brain.

Appears our noggins can only hold about 150 people -- people you know the first name of and feel comfortable with.

Beyond that amount your brain lumps people into things like races, stereotypes, organizations, cultures, etc.

This is all because of something called the MonkeySphere.

Since I've been recording and filming all week and am bushed right now, I don't have the time or energy to explain this concept to you.

Bonnie Meets Francine and Learns The Mightest Motivator

When my sister, Bonnie, visited me last week and saw my 2005 Panoz Esperante GTLM named Francine, she lit up.

Bonnie has never been into cars, but she sure wanted in Francine.

And once behind the wheel, she didn't want to let go, or get out.

It was raining that day, so Bonnie didn't get to drive Francine.

Bonnie has been married for almost twenty-nine years. When her husband, Frank, got into the car, his eyes grew large and his smile grew wide.

I let him start the car. As he heard the roar of Francine's engine, he seemed to radiate bliss.

Bonnie looked at him and said, "I haven't seen that look on your face in twenty-nine years."

Frank replied, "Get me a car like this and you'll see it all the time."

Principles of Change

A dear friend who knew me over thirty years ago, when I was in poverty and struggling, is baffled by my level of success today.

She's still struggling.

I'm not.

So she asked me an interesting question:

"How'd you do it?"

Sheesh. This is a question I get a lot.

I've tried to answer it here on this blog, on my main site, and in my various books.

I'll try to answer it yet again.

I think my change came from the following principles of conscious creation:

1. Constant belief clearing.

I feel we live in a belief created universe. Most of us, myself included, are living our lives based on programming we aren't even aware of. Those unconscious beliefs are causing us to see the world the way we do, and to take the actions (or not take them) that we do. To get different results, you have to change the programming. I keep working on myself with books and audios and seminars. But I also know sometimes you need what I've coined a Miracles Coach. This is clearly the number one thing I've done and continue to do to keep improving myself. The only limitations are my own. The way to change them is inside me. If I can't see the beliefs operating in me, I may need an outside trusted party to help me find them and release them. This is the most important key to permanent change. Everyone who finds their limiting beliefs and changes them will get new results. Everyone. And "everyone" includes you. This is the Missing Secret to dramatic change.

2. Constant action.

I rarely sit around waiting for things to happen. I've tried many things that failed, and many that succeeded. Recently Suzanne, my chief assistant, compiled a bibliography of my work. It's forty-three pages long. How in the world did I create 43 pages worth of products? From constant action. Most people don't take any action because they talk themselves out of it. They are afraid of failure, or success. This is why step one (belief clearing) is so important. Take care of the doubts and you naturally take actions. I'm the guy in the movie The Secret that urges you to take inspired action, so it should come as no surprise to you that I still believe action is one of the essential keys to change. Action is a great way to install and transcend The Secret.

3. Constant ruthless honesty.

Most people lie to themselves about what they really want. They say things that are socially acceptable or safe in some other way, instead of opening their heart and speaking the truth about their desires. Being ruthlessly honest with yourself helps you discover your passion, and passion is the fuel that brings you new levels of success. Passion is my secret to success. Passion is your guidance system that leads you to change. Passion adds fire to the Law of Attraction. Passion is one of the key principles of change.

Again, there are numerous principles of change, self-empowerment and deliberate creation. I've written about them in my books, The Attractor Factor and in Life's Missing Instruction Manual, and in forthcoming books, such as Zero Limits, and The Key. But if you want a quick answer to a big question, the above three points are it.

Melinda's One-Finger Manicure

While escorting my sister around San Antonio's famed river walk last Saturday, a young, tiny woman at a kiosk quietly stopped me with the question, "Want to see something amazing?"

Amazing?

Of course.

I was curious.

I said yes.

She then asked me to put my hands in a bowl. Then she poured a small amount of dead sea something or other on my hands and asked me to wash them. I did.

"When was the last time you washed your hands?" she asked.

Though it was Saturday, I said, "Last Monday."

She laughed, and then pointed out how dirty my hands were. Apparently the dead sea stuff was getting dead dirt off my hands.

The little lady then asked me if she could do my fingernail. I agreed

She began to scrub my index finger's nail with some dead sea block of something or other. As she did, she asked, "When was the last time you had a manicure?"

"A manicure? Probably in a past life. I've never had one."

The girl went on with her sales pitch. I was going along with the demo, thinking all along I would just buy this stuff for Nerissa.

But I have to admit I was enjoying the interaction and becoming interested in the products. It was hypnotic selling at work.

Though the girl seemed a little awkward in her presentation, she was doing fine in engaging me.

But the punch line was yet to come.

At the end of her spiel, I bought just under one hundred dollars of her goods.

She then announced, "My name is Melinda and you were my first customer."

I was stunned.

Almost speechless.

"You've never done this before?" I asked.

"Today's my first day," she replied. "You're my first customer."

Her boss was standing behind the kiosk and came out to confirm that yes, indeed, Melinda just made her first sale.

Goes to show you that you can never determine what people are thinking, what their skills or experience level might be, or much else, until you put them on the stage.

And even then you won't know for sure.

This is true for you, as well.

So go out there and try something new today.

Turning Corners, Playing Gigs

You never know what's around the next corner.

While showing my sister around the area where we live, we went into Hill Country Guitars, a cool place to buy vintage and collectible guitars.

My sister isn't at all interested in guitars, but I am. Since I was her tour guide, we went where I wanted to go.

Anyway, in the store Nerissa saw an unusual stool in the center of the room. When I asked the owner, Kevin Drew Davis, he said there's a story behind the guitar stool.

Appears a guitar player by the name of Pete Petre made the stool for himself, to make his gig playing more comfortable.

There are adjustable legs to rest your feet, a place to put your beverage, slots to stick your guitar picks, a place to lean your guitar, and so on.

The thing is, whenever Pete played, people were more interested in his handmade guitar stools than in his music.

But being a smart entrepreneur, he went with the demand. He now makes guitar stools. His site at www.guitarstools.com/ is so busy with orders, he just took it offline until he could keep up with the demand.

I bought one of his guitar stools, too. That's it in the picture. (The guitar in the picture was given to me by Pat O'Bryan.)

The lesson here is to be open. You might want to do one thing, but the public may be more interested in a tangent to it. You can still do what you want, but don't overlook what the buyers want.

After all, they are the ones with the money.

How to Get My Attention - Part Two

I'm in San Antonio showing my sister around. But before I could leave to get here I had to sign for packages from Fed-x and Express Mail.

People are sending me DVD players and cell phones, all trying to get my attention.

There's a lot to say here about sending me things but since I'm typing on my Blackberry, I'll just say this: the first time someone sends me a DVD player and/or a phone, it's unique. But by the next ten times it wears thin.

Anyone who reads this blog should know how easy it is to get my attention. Just be the person to send me the largest ever Amazon gift certificate. (The largest I ever received so far was five hundred dollars.)

But what you *really* should be doing is developing an idea worth my (or anyone's) attention. Then and only then should you get creative about turning my head.

After all, I'm not looking for new projects, so your idea has to be more stunning then the approach you use to get my attention.

"Sasuske"

I don't watch sports at all.

No football.

Basketball.

Baseball.

Wrestling.

Not even boxing, though I thought I was going to be world heavyweight boxing champion back in the early 1970s. (For real.)

Today I couldn't tell you the name of the current heavyweight champion.

But all this non-sports watching changed a few weeks ago when I discovered the most exciting athletic competition ever seen on television.

I'm talking about Ninja Warrior.

I stumbled across this wild game show one night while flipping through channels, waiting for Jon Stewart's The Daily Show to come on.

As soon as I saw these Japanese athletes run through the most bizarre and demanding obstacle course ever created by madmen (or madwomen), with a clock ticking away and an audience cheering them on, I was hooked.

Even Nerissa - another non-sports watcher - got caught up with the Ninja Warriors.

At times I found myself holding my breath, wondering if a competitor would make it across a trippy obstacle. (Most don't.)

At other times I actually spoke to the TV, urging the people in Japan to make it across the mind-boggling obstacles.

You've GOT to see this show to believe it.

I find it inspiring. This morning after I worked-out, I looked at my 15 ft climbing rope and said, "If a Ninja Warrior can do the incredible feats they do, I can go up a frickin rope!"

I then went up higher than EVER before.

When is something bad?

As I begin this post I'm still without my computer and wireless in the house. I only got online with my laptop a few minutes ago.

As you know from my last post, lightning hit a tree here and knocked out almost everything. Even my hot tub was hit. Now that was bad.

Or was it?

I started wondering when something we attract gets labelled as "bad."

The power going out isn't preferred but is it bad?

The Internet going down, the wireless router burning up, and the cable modem being fried aren't desired either, but is it all bad?

The computer dying on me isn't on my wish list either, but is it bad?

I've often said that most of marketing is perception. Well, so is most of life.

What if I looked at the lightning strike and the resulting power problems as actually good?

What if I asked myself, "What's the positive reason for this experience?"

For example, I'm supposed to be on vacation this week, anyway. What do I need my computer or Internet for? We cancelled the actual trip to Las Vegas due to Brownie's death, but I can still read and relax at home. The lightning strike could be seen as a statement from the Universe to STOP WORKING.

I didn't understand why the hot tub would have a problem though. I use that to relax. But then I realized only half the hot tub doesn't work. I can still get in it and still use it. So even that isn't really bad.

I've been reading some good books while on this enforced vacation. I'm becoming a fan of Steve Chandler. His book The Story of You is inspiring.

It's about learning to choose a new story - or to give new meaning - to whatever happens.

When you do that, you have control of your life experience.

So - What's bad?

Maybe nothing at all.

Maybe all it needs is a new story. A new interpretation.

Thank goodness for that lightning strike.

Without it I may never have written this post or paused to read a really good book.

Not bad, eh?

Hit by Lightning

Last night a fierce Texas sized thunderstorm hit over the house. Lightning just missed my BMW Z3. It hit a tree and knocked out power, the Internet, and my computer. We still don't have net access and my computer remains unconscious. A word to the wise: keep flashlights, water, and your Blackberry handy. And backup everything.

Yesterday Pat O'Bryan put a 9-minute video excerpt from one of my talks on YouTube.

By the same evening it was ranked #1.

It was the #1 most popular clip in the how-to category.

Beware TV and C-Scans

On last night's episode of Desperate Housewives, actress Felicity Huffman, playing Lynette Scavo on the TV show, hits her head and ends up in ER.

She goes through a c-scan and a solemn medical doctor tells her and her husband they found swollen lymph nodes in her skull.

She immediately asks if it is cancer.

The doctor says it could be.

The moment is now tense, dark, and gloomy.

This is exactly what I went through.

I yelled out to Felicity/Lynette, "You need to read my blog!"

TV shows, like medical authorities, can send shivers up your spine -- if you let them.

Understanding Zero

Most people who hear about the beautiful ho'oponopono Hawaiian clearing method I write about in my book, Zero Limits, feel the urge to teach it to others.

The thing is, no one else needs to know it.

Only you.

It's not uncommon for someone to hear of a friend having a problem and then telling the friend, "You need to clean on that."

That's not how the method works, though.

The message of Zero Limits is that you are 100% responsible for your life. No exceptions. No loopholes.

If anyone tells you of their problem, it's your problem, too.

You have to clean it, not them.

I admit it would be nice to simply throw the problem back to the person stating it, but then it would be shirking responsibility, not owning it.

If the problem is in your awareness -- no matter how it got there -- then it's your problem.

As soon as you are aware of it, start cleaning.

About Brownie

That's Brownie in the picture.

He passed away earlier today.

I had him for twenty years. He was born feral, but quickly learned to like being petted and being held.

He had a stroke Thursday morning, and another the same afternoon. He's been in ER until today.

Nerissa and I are in a state of shock right now. I know this is for the best, and I know Brownie is at peace, but it's still a challenge to let go.

I wish I had something wise to say here. I realize death is part of the life experience, but right now it feels like the part that sucks.

I'm focusing on the joy Brownie gave me for twenty years -- first with my late ex-wife Marian and then with Nerissa over the last few years -- and I am grateful this loving Maine Coon came into our lives.

Thank you for all your loving thoughts.

Seed Money vs. Just Giving?

Suzanne tells me my office gets this question a lot --

"I recently got the Seed Money book download from your site. I have one or two questions for you around this. I'm sure you get plenty of questions everyday and don't have time to personally answer all of them. Even if you added this to an upcoming blog it would be helpful.

In the seed money book, it talks about using the principal of affirming getting a ten-fold return on your money. However, in your Greatest Money Making Secret book (which I really loved) you state that you should give with absolutely no expectation of any return. Just give straight from the heart.

Surely it is possible to do both - give from the heart and also affirm that what you give will return to you ten fold. I would love to hear your views on this.

Also in your Greatest money making secret book you state that you should only really give to those people/places that have truly uplifted/inspired you. I can see the merit in this. However, surely you can also affirm that whatever I give out (be it money, smiles, compliments, energy etc.) will return to me tenfold. In this case, even shopping at the local store or filling the car up with gas can be included in this affirmation.

Is this different from the seed money principle? In your experience does what I am suggesting not work? My own feeling is that any "transaction" that I have with the universe on any level can be returned to me tenfold. Surely the universal intelligence can't tell the difference between me giving to a needy charity and me giving when I shop at the store, so long as the emotion involved is the same.

My answer is brief and to the point: you're talking about two different things.

Seed Money is giving ten percent as a "seed" to grow or attract more money. You can plant those seeds anywhere: stores, churches, people, gas stations, good causes. When you plant a seed, you expect it to grow. So when you give, you expect a return.

Tithing is paying the money you owe the universe for what you have already received. You do it wherever you have received spiritual nourishment: people, places, things. You don't expect a return because you already received the return. You give to pay back.

As for where to give and is the universe watching: my rule of thumb is only give where your heart directs. From there, you will receive more -- as long as you don't have any limiting beliefs about money which would stop or slow the flow.

Question: Prosperity or Problem?

When it comes to money, most people are full of limiting beliefs they don't have a clue they have.

But not everyone is like that, of course.

This morning I spoke to an old world craftsman who makes high-end, unique, rare, collectible wooden cigar humidors.

The people he caters to don't care at all about price. They simply want what they want.

From a marketing standpoint, I admire the woods craftsman for serving a niche. That's always a smart move.

From a consumer's standpoint, I love to hear of people who have transcended their money worries.

Not enough people let go of their concerns about money. What they don't realize is that it's their concern that is causing their concern.

You don't have the problem first and then get concerned.

You get the problem because you were concerned to begin with.

When you worry about money, your focus is in the wrong place.

Your worry attracts something to worry about.

I'm not saying disregard your bank balance. I'm saying focus more on what you want -- on your passions and your love -- and keep an eye on money but not a concern about money.

I'm also saying that the more you get clear inside of your money issues, the less you have money issues.

Getting Something Off My Chest...

For the last three months I've lived with the idea that I have cancer.

I've kept this secret to myself and a small circle of close friends, as I didn't want to invite any negative energy to it.

But now it's time to tell you the whole story...

The Problem

When I had my emergency appendectomy last January, the doctors did a routine c-scan and discovered a strange growth inside my chest, between my lungs.

That wasn't news I expected.

The doctor delivered it to me like it was a death sentence.

I had to take another c-scan to learn the growth was potentially dangerous. While the radiologists and the doctors couldn't say for certain, they suspected it could be a deadly form of lymphoma.

The doctors sent me to a cancer specialist, who saw me the next day and wanted to do a biopsy the very next day after that.

Why were they moving so quickly?

Why did they want a biopsy done so soon?

They didn't bother to tell me the biopsy might in fact be more dangerous than the growth in my chest. A biopsy can break up the tumor and cause it to travel to new areas in the body. It's not always the best thing to do.

I decided to not do it, though it was not an easy decision to make.

What if I were wrong?

The Mental Stress

You can't imagine how the thought of having cancer can ruin your day. Even with mental discipline, being told you could have cancer is enough to make anyone shake.

I cancelled trips, such as one to Canada for a book signing and interviews. I couldn't handle the flights, the three days of work, the people, the traffic, the questions, all while still recovering from emergency surgery and now carrying the stress of cancer on my mind.

I found it hard to focus on work at home, too, though I did the best I could and still came out with new books, such as Buying Trances: A New Psychology of Sales and Marketing.

I went on Larry King live, for my five minutes of fame, but I was distracted by my concerns. I don't think I looked my best. I dragged into the studio and dragged out of it.

That's not all, of course.

Being in waiting rooms surrounded by people who definitely have cancer and are in various forms of decay is not pleasant or pretty, either.

And I was sitting among them.

I was possibly one of them.

How was I going to get out of this one?

The Pivoting Point

The first thing I did was feel my emotions.

I admit that being told by a cancer specialist that the growths in my chest are not natural, no matter what they are, was unsettling, to say the least.

I left there with tears in my eyes.

I drove home feeling depressed.

I felt very alone.

But along the drive home I got my second wind. I remembered my books, my talks, the movie The Secret, the power of the Law of Attraction -- and I took matters into my own hands.

I was not going to be a victim.

I was not going to mindlessly bow to authority.

So I stated an intention: I would heal whatever I had.

I didn't know how.

But I would figure it out along the way.

Taking Action

By the time I got home, I felt a renewed sense of power. I went online and shot off emails to people who I felt could help me.

Some people were close friends for emotional support.

Some people were resources who knew healers or alternative methods of healing.

I basically shook the trees to create an army of support to help me.

Obviously, I took a lot of action.

I didn't get overnight results, though.

I worked with one healer who thought I was healed after three phone sessions with him. He encouraged me to get another c-scan. He felt my tumors were gone.

I scheduled the c-scan -- which cost me two thousand dollars -- and submitted myself to the test again.

But the growth in my chest had not changed at all.

I was very disappointed.

I wasn't going to give up, though.

I re-stated my intention and moved forward.

Exploring the Cause

Joe Sugarman of BluBlocker sunglasses fame told me about a product that could potentially dissolve cancerous tumors. It's a protected form of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant. I immediately asked for it and began to take it.

I also asked myself what in me attracted the health challenge.

After all, if we attract everything, how did I attract this?

I write about the method I used to clear myself in my forthcoming book, The Key.

In short, I focused on forgiving myself and others. I focused on letting go of resentment so I could release any stuck energy in my body and again be at a place of health; of peace.

I used the tumors as a spiritual awakening. They became a device for me to realize my power of choice. They became a gift.

And all of this continued until last Thursday morning.

The Tube

That's when I went in for an MRI, to see how I was doing.

I didn't like the MRI.

I was slid into a tube.

Might as well call it a coffin.

It's a tight fit, it's an enclosed space, I can't move or even fidget, and I had to wear headphones that delivered non-stop country music -- my least favorite music -- into my ears.

No fun.

I also had to be in that slim-jim tube for over thirty minutes, which is tough when you can't move at all and all you can hear is music you don't like.

I spent my time cleaning and clearing myself using the Zero Limits method.

I spent thirty minutes saying "I love you" to whatever was listening.

I left the MRI disoriented and weak.

I hadn't eaten.

I hadn't had coffee.

And I just went through a rough time with all that country music.

But later Thursday night I got the results.

The Results

You can't imagine my relief when I got the news.

Finally - after three months of waiting - it was clear that I do not have cancer.

The swollen nodes in my chest are still there but harmless; probably there because at one time in the last three years they fought off an infection in my body. They are heroes for helping me stay healthy. They in fact needed appreciated; even loved.

They are not cancerous and any sign of cancer is gone.

I'm free.

After three months of living with the idea that I had cancer, my intention and my work cleared up the inner problem.

What's left is health and well being.

What I learned from all this is that all is well.

The swollen nodes in my chest are still swollen and still the same size, which means there may never have been a problem in the first place, as they never enlarged.

But it could also mean everything I did -- from the healers I worked with to the inner work I did on myself to the new form of glutathione I took -- all helped me stop anything from getting worse.

Whatever the case, I'm well, and far more improved, awake, alive, and aware than I was before this adventure.

Lessons

My message to you is this:

don't be a victim, be a victor;

don't focus on what you don't want, focus on what you do want;

don't assume what you want to change is bad, it may actually be good for you;

don't sit and wait for things to happen, take action, any inspired action, to get things started;

and always maintain hope.

Expect Miracles.

How to Get My Attention

Most people who try to get my attention just send an email.

But if you really want to get my -- or anyone's -- attention you need to think bigger.

Fed-X just delivered (for Saturday morning) a huge box. I opened it and found what you see in the picture: a DVD player, a cell phone, and a note.

If I were working for the FBI, I might be worried about such a package.

Instead, I followed directions and watched the one minute presentation.

The presentation was simple: just someone holding up a flip chart and flipping pages with short messages on them, as music played. It ended directing me to push a button on the cell phone to hear a message.

That part didn't work, so I still have no idea what the person who went to all this trouble wants to sell, but they DID get my attention.

And now yours.

Booking Success: LOA Works #2

The other day my personal trainer, Scott York, asked me for a favor.

Scott is a certified personal trainer and is also one of the top fitness, figure and bodybuilding marketing experts in the world.

He works behind the scenes with Pro Body Builder Lee Priest, IFBB Pro Figure Competitor Monica Brant-Peckham, and IFBB Pro Fitness Competitor, Adela Garcia.

Scott wanted to know if I could give him an extra copy of the book by Steve Siebold, titled 177 Mental Toughness Secrets of the World Class.

Siebold's book is a masterpiece; a work of genius. I've purchased the book by the carton and given it out to friends, including Scott. He wanted the extra copy for Lee Priest, the popular bodybuilder I met last year (see picture).

Lee is already a world class performer, and so is Scott. But, like me, we're always interested in exceeding our personal best in all areas of life.

So of course I agreed to give Scott the extra book for Lee.

But I couldn't find one.

I looked all over the house, my office, and everywhere I could think of.

I have books piled up everywhere, so it's easy to overlook one.

While I had the clear intention to find a copy of the book, and wanted to engage the Law of Attraction to help me locate it, it didn't seem to be in the cards.

I emailed Scott and told him I couldn't find an extra copy of the book.

But then an odd thing happened.

The next day -- the very day Scott was coming over to work out with me in my gym -- I felt inspired to look in the back seat of my BMW 645ci.

I did and found a pile of music CDs, a copy of The Attractor Factor, and -- you guessed it -- a copy of Steve Siebold's book.

When Scott arrived, I gave him the book.

That's how the Law of Attraction works: set your intention, do whatever it takes to achieve it, let go of any attachment, and act on the inspired nudges you get from within.

Belting Out Bags: LOA Works

Last weekend my chiropractor, Dr. Rick Barrett, saw me carrying a soft leather bag, something of a stylish saddle bag, and said he wanted one just like it.

The thing is, I bought the bag over a year ago for $150 and didn't think I could get another one.

The man who sold me the bag specialized in selling belt buckles and belts. His bags were a one time offer.

But I mentally told myself I would see if I could attract one for Dr. Barrett.

I would think about the bag every day, at least for a moment or two. I would tell myself that I want to find the man I bought it from and ask him about the bag. But I kept letting it go and doing other things.

But then yesterday I received an email, out of the blue, from the very man who sold me the bag.

He was checking to see if I had received a belt and belt buckle he had sent me as a gift.

I thought it was amazing that he wrote me, as I hadn't heard from him in well over six months. But I seized the opportunity to reply and to of course ask about the leather bags.

He instantly wrote back, saying he doesn't sell the bags anymore.

But he looked in storage and found two bags there, of different sizes.

He offered to send them both to me, for free.

He said, "You are such an Attractor Factor guy that I feel like just giving these to you."

I was stunned.

But I also knew this is how the Law of Attraction works if you are clear: you state what you would like to have, but without any attachment to the outcome. You just playfully put it out there. When the universe puts the opportunity in your face, you take action. That's it.

And notice the win-win-win here:

Not only will Dr. Barrett get to choose the bag he wants from two different size bags, but I'll get the other bag to use as I please.

And the man who gave me the two bags?

PS -- Last night the famous action-packed movie Die Hard 2, starring Bruce Willis, was on television. The lead character, who barely survived terrorists in the first movie, is again barely surviving bad guys in the second movie. At one point Bruce Willis says, "Why do these things keep happening to me?" I said out loud to the screen, "It's the Attractor Factor, bro." Until he gets clear, he'll keep attracting the same stuff, and never realize he's the magnet. Not being clear makes for a great movie but a lousy life.

How to Attract a Million Dollars

I have a theory:

I believe the Universe (Divine, God, or whatever It is for you) sends an idea into the mental world to several people at the same time.

The Divine knows not all of those people will take action. In a way, It's just covering It's bet.

The person who takes action on the idea fastest is first to market, and usually the first to profit the most. The others can still act on the idea and still do well, but generally speaking, the first to come out of the gate with a new idea is the first to cash in big on it.

Here's an example of how this works:

Yesterday a friend of mine called while I was busy. He left a message saying he had an idea for a million dollar product. He left me a quick summary of the idea.

Now here's the punchline:

While he was leaving his message, I was out creating that very idea.

In other words, the Universe sent the same idea to him, me, and most likely a few others. But when the idea entered my world, I acted on it. Fast. I was actually creating the idea while the others, including my friend, were still thinking about it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: money likes speed; the Universe likes speed.

When you get an idea, act.

That's what I said in the movie The Secret, and that's what I'm reminding you today.

"The Universe likes speed. Don´t delay. Don´t second guess. Don´t doubt. When the opportunity is there, when the impulse is there, when the intuitive nudge from within is there, ACT."

Thresholds: Is it serving or selling?

Most people complain that they don't have enough money.

They look at their bills, they look at their wants and needs, they look at their checkbook, and then they look terrified.

How will they pay their bills?

How will they feed their family?

How will they attract more money?

I'm sure you know the feeling. We've all been there. You may be there right now.

Now what's really curious to me is this:

The movie The Secret and many of the teachers in it offer proven ways to attract money and other material things. This obviously works, given the thousands of testimonials from people who now have money when previously they couldn't find it in a bank with the vault door open.

But some people are complaining that the focus of the movie is only on money or material things. They say it's self-serving. They say it's egotistic.

Do you hear the cultural programming at work?

"Money is bad."

"Taking care of yourself is bad."

"Material things are not spiritual."

Please note the discrepancy: when you want money and at the same time say focusing on it is bad or selfish, you are pushing it away.

Even the fans of the movie are doing this.

Some of the very people who use the Law of Attraction to get out of debt or attract a new car, at a later point only attract so much money before they begin to think they are being selfish. At that point they unconsciously turn off the flow and wonder what happened. They then begin to criticize the movie, too.

It's a strange thing to see.

First, people scramble to find money and worry and fret about it.

Then, they actually learn how to attract it, get some, and begin to complain that money isn't spiritual.

Wait a minute.

Weren't these the same people who wanted money in the first place?

Why was money good when they didn't have it and bad when they finally got it?

All of this is because of people's beliefs.

They hit their threshold of deservingness.

My father plays the lottery. But when the lotto gets to a hundred million dollars, he quits playing. He says that amount is "too much" and "that much money will ruin you."

Winning ninety-nine million is OK but one hundred million isn't?

Again, we're dealing with beliefs.

We're dealing with thresholds of deservingness.

I was at an event once when a fellow called his wife and handed me the phone. He wanted a star of The Secret to surprise her.

I took the call, said my name, and heard her scream.

She was talking to a celebrity. She was giddy with excitement.

But then she started asking me what I was doing to save the world.

This woman had gone from being a fan of The Secret and using what she learned to manifest a few things, to hitting her comfort zone and now not wanting anything else.

What happened?

Another example is this: many of the teachers in the movie The Secret create products and services to help you achieve your goals. When your mindset is open, you thank them for their services. When your mindset is closed, you say they are just "selling."

Well, are they selling or serving?

It's both and it's neither. It depends on your beliefs.

It depends on your threshold of deservingness.

If you think they are taking advantage of you, you call it selling (because you think selling is bad).

If you think they are helping you, you call it serving (because you know serving is good).

Again, it's all about beliefs, and particularly your belief about what you feel you deserve.

That belief creates a threshold that you won't get past without some work.

It reminds me of a question a therapist used to ask patients:

"How good can you stand it?"

Most of us can't stand it really good.

"What will the neighbors think?"

"What will my family think?"

"If it's too good, surely something bad will happen."

"I don't deserve it too good."

"If it's too good, it won't last and I'll be miserable again."

"If I'm happy, I won't do anything to save the planet."

Those are all limiting beliefs.

Your life can be fantastic. Truly amazing. But very often we hit a comfort level and won't go past it. Why? Because of our self-imposed limits.

Because of our threshold of deservingness.

You can deceive yourself with rationalizations and criticisms about The Secret, me, others, the world, etc; but the end result is, you limit your own good.

I keep reminding people that once you get clear, there's not much you can't have, do, or be.

Your goal should always be happiness, what I call spiritual awakening, but the only limits along the way are your own.

How good can you stand it, anyway?

The Top Ten Things I Do Every Day to be Successful

Aaron Potts started a great Internet experiment called “Simply Successful Secrets”.

He invited bloggers to write a post about the 5-10 things they do most days (at least 4-5 days a week) that help them be successful.

Participating bloggers then "tag" other bloggers, inviting them to contribute to the experiment, revealing their own secrets to success.

Each blog post is linked back to Aaron’s original post and to the person who tagged them.

As you might imagine, this is a brilliant way to get all the bloggers new readers, elevate all the blogs in the search engines, and help educate everyone -- readers as well as bloggers -- by revealing daily success tips they may never have thought of before.

I received Mary Ann Copson's email invitation to me to participate in this grand experiment and decided this would be entertaining as well as educational.

So, here are the top ten things I do every day to be successful:

1. Exercise.

I exercise 4 to 5 days a week. Weight-lifting is three days a week. Cardio/aerobics is two. I usually do this in the morning, after I've had enough coffee to awaken most of my body and alert it to the fact that we're about to move. Exercise is a great stress reducer as well as confidence builder. Plus burning off calories lets me consume some calories and not regret it. I work-out in my own gym, so I don't have far to walk to get there. Truth be known, I wish I didn't have to exercise. But I also know there's no healthy way around it. So I, as Nike advises, "Just do it."

2. E-mail.

I check e-mail all day long, but heavily in the morning. I do my best to answer important e-mails quickly, as if writing a short telegram where every word costs plenty. Since my business is largely Internet driven, taking care of urgent e-mails keeps me prosperous and customers happy. Since I'm in the movie The Secret, often these e-mails come from reporters or people wanting to set up interviews with me, so it's important I act on these right away. I answer most email faster than most autoresponders. I also have a couple of mentoring programs, such as Miracles Coaching, and I love receiving emails from people achieving new levels of success from this coaching. Donald Trump once wrote, "Email is for wimps." For me, it's for the successful.

3. Read.

It should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me that I read numerous books, many at one time, and throughout the day. I love books. I'm an admitted bookaholic. I rarely read fiction and can't get enough nonfiction in the areas of marketing, copywriting, publicity, advertising, spirituality, psychology, health, healing, hypnosis, mind power, new thought, muscle building, close-up magic, etc.

4. Write.

I'm always working on a new book. I have so many books out now that I can't remember them all, which means I can sometimes re-read one of my own books and be entertained, since it's new to me, too. Usually there is one book I am focusing on writing to the exclusion of all else. Right now I'm writing The Key: The Missing Secret to Attracting Whatever You Want, but I also have two other books to write and several more to promote. Focus gives me power. I write every day, either on a book, an email campaign, a blog post, a website, a news release, or an article for www.mrfire.com/ I even write blog posts from my Blackberry. I'm a writer, so I write. A lot.

5. Hot Tub

My Jacuzzi is the greatest investment of my life. I've never been so relaxed after being in it for just 30 minutes at 101 degrees. I now do this virtually every day. There's nothing like resting and revitalizing yourself so you can go back into the office and resume work. I think it's essential to meditate and relax, in some way, daily. If you're too busy to do this, then you really need to do this.

6. Gratitude

About six months ago I started smoking cigars. Not cigarettes with all their paper and additives; cigars. Say what you want, cigar smoking has become a type of gratitude meditation for me. I usually smoke a Cuban cigar outside, on the pool deck, in the evening. Sometimes I play one of my guitars, too. As I relax and look at the sky, I give gratitude for my life. I didn't always have a luxurious lifestyle. I was homeless thirty or so years ago. I am grateful to have survived it and grateful to be alive today. Life is good. Giving thanks makes it better. 7. I Love You.

Every day I spend time with Nerissa, our cats and dog, and feel the love. I've learned that the simple statement "I love you" can create miracles. "I love you" keeps the bliss alive. I explain this in my forthcoming book, Zero Limits. But I do this every day. I'm doing it right now. I'm silently saying I love you as I write this.

8. Planning.

Every evening I list what I will do the next day. But I do this in a unique way. I learned this method from Jerry and Esther Hicks. I make two lists. On one list I write the things I am scheduled to do, such as make calls, do an interview, turn in my tax records to my corporate accountants, etc. On the other list I write what I want the Universe to do. This may sound goofy, but the Divine (the Universe, God, Life, Tao, etc) will handle some of your bigger requests, if you simply ask. Again, this may seem gonzo to you, but it's my reality. Apparently, it works. I continue to do it. Have for years.

9. Research.

I visit very few websites, but those I do are essential to me. I visit Amazon every day. I'm always checking on how my babies (books) are doing, such as The Attractor Factor and my P.T. Barnum book. I'm always looking to see what new books Amazon suggests I get. I read a handful of blogs. I don't pay too much attention to the current news. I'm interested in trends, gadgets, new technology, health, healing, the Law of Attraction, etc. But my quick turbo-speed web surfing keeps me at least abreast of what's happening, so I can spot opportunities for new products, etc.

10. Nap.

I try to take a nap every afternoon. Sometimes being in the hot tub relaxes me so much that's it best to take a nap right after being in it. I need a nap to let my muscles recuperate from working-out. I also need a nap to let my mind refuel after writing and reading most of the day. I don't usually get a lot of sleep at night, so an afternoon nap keeps me sane, too.

There you have it. Those are my daily success to-dos.

Sing, Blackbird, Sing!

I love guitars.

I have several here. I have as many guitars as I know guitar chords.

No, I don't know many chords and I can't play all that well (yet) but still.

When Michelle Malone came here and performed a private concert in our home, she unloaded a van full of guitars. Then she noticed mine and said, "I didn't need to unload anything. I could have used Joe's guitars."

I'm no Michelle Malone but I sure love guitar music.

Since I'm also a fan of unique, rare, collectible, innovative and limited edition gadgets, you can imagine how excited I got when I read about the new Blackbird guitar in the May issue of Popular Science magazine.

The Blackbird is a smaller, travel-size guitar, made out of carbon fiber. It features an all-hollow uni-body shell, setting it apart from any guitar in the world. The body, neck, and head are cast in one-piece with the sound board, fretboard, tuners, etc. added to that main component. The sound comes out of the neck of the guitar, so it's still got a full-size guitar sound.

The thing is virtually indestructible. I told my bud Pat O'Bryan, a guitar slinger with several blues-rock Cd's out, that if an atom bomb went off under a Blackbird guitar, all you would hear is a "ping" in the key of E.

Blackbird is only making 100 of these gems. I placed an order for one of them this morning, which means I'll have one of the first 50 made, to be delivered in June.

I got so excited that I went outside (it's gorgeous out) and played one of my other guitars, just to celebrate.

I think we should do things to reward ourselves whenever we accomplish something. You don't have to invest in a collectible guitar. But it's wise to pat yourself on the back whenever you complete something, by rewarding yourself with a treat. This is great for your self-esteem and a way to program yourself to expect more good when you do good.

My last big reward was a hot tub.

I had finished my fifth fitness contest and treated myself to the best investment of my life. I love my Jacuzzi. I'm in it virtually every day. Talk about a stress reducer. I can barely get out of the tub after 30 minutes in it. I am sooooo relaxed I can hardly walk away from the hot tub and back into the house.

After completing one of my earlier 12-week fitness contests, I celebrated by buying a new car: a BMW 645ci. (Side note: Yesterday the car called BMW and booked a service appointment. Apparently it needs an oil change. I've never had a car make a phone call for me before. I wonder why the car doesn't just drive itself over to BMW, too?)

Since I completed editing the galley to Zero Limits yesterday, and am making terrific progress with the new book about the missing secret, called The Key, and I just signed yet another book deal for yet another book, I felt I deserved a reward.

Plus I really wanted a Blackbird.

Freud was Wrong

After I awakened this morning from a refreshing sleep, I started to tell Nerissa about a colorful and confusing dream I had.

Part of the dream was about receiving a pair of huge, odd-looking eyeglasses in the mail.

"You dreamed that because we watched the show about Phyllis Diller last night," she interrupted.

"Huh?"

"Phyllis Diller has a collection of wild eyeglasses, hats and clothes that we saw in that documentary we watched last night, Goodnight, We Love You - The Life and Legend of Phyllis Diller. Your mind simply ran with one of the images."

"Don't go Freudian on me now," I warned.

I had read enough about Freud to know he was a well-intended but mis-guided soul. Thinking everything is a symbol (very Jungian) or has meaning (very Freudian) can be misleading. As Freud himself once noted, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

"Freud was wrong," I said.

I went on to explain that Freud would have died penniless and unknown if it weren't for his nephew.

"Who was his nephew?"

"The greatest manipulator of the masses of all time," I said. "He created modern-day public relations. I wrote about him in my Barnum book."

"And he was --?"

"Edward L. Bernays."

That meant nothing to her, so the conversation turned to breakfast.

"I'll have oatmeal," she said.

"Oatmeal?" I asked. "You know what that means, don't you?"

Overcoming Homelessness

The best answer I can give at this time is: go watch the Will Smith movie, In Pursuit of Happyness.

It is an excruciating film to watch -- the character goes through hell before he achieves even a hint of success -- but it's an inspiring movie, too.

Chiromagica and Other Mind Reading Devices

Sitting beside me right now is a game from 1870.

Yes, 1870.

It's called Chiromagica.

It's rare, collectible, and unusual because it it can actually read your mind.

Yes, even your mind.

What you do is look for your question on one of three round dials, and then set it on the center of the game/automaton.

Suddenly a tiny hand sitting under glass will move around and then settle on your answer.

Pretty cool for a game from over 137 years ago.

The unit I have must be off a little, though.

I asked it to tell me the capital of Turkey.

It said, "Sacramento."

I asked it to tell me who our 11th US President was.

It said, "Washington."

But a new gadget I just received claims to do even better than that.

It's called a Release Meter.

It's a cool looking unit, though odd to leave out on your coffee table without some explanation.

You simply slip on a headband and the single, gold-plated electrode in it makes contact with your forehead. You plug the other end into your computer. You load up some software. The Release Meter then shows how "clear" you are.

I know it sounds trippy but this thing appears to work.

Your feelings about your thoughts show up on a graph on your monitor. As you practice your favorite clearing method, the graph shows whether you are actually clear or not of that belief.

William Shatner Attracts Who???!!!

I love the television show Boston Legal. In last night's episode actor William Shatner, playing egomaniac attorney Denny Crain, sits in a chair, closes his eyes, and tries to attract actress Racquel Welch.

I loved seeing the movie The Secret and the Law of Attraction getting spoofed on national TV.

And that's what it was: a spoof.

At the end of the show Shatner's character attracts one of the greatest female comedians of all time: Phyllis Diller.

Shatner is shattered.

He thinks "The Secret" didn't work.

He mumbles, "I'm going to sue those people."

What did Shatner's character do wrong?

Why didn't he attract what he said he wanted?

Here's my take on it:

1. Shatner's character sits and concentrates, finger to forehead, and looks like he has a headache. There's no joy on his face. The Law of Attraction works when you feel the end result of what you want, not just think about it. Denny Crain isn't even close.

2. Shatner's character takes no action at all. None. Considering the character he plays, surely he could have picked up the phone and called around. Surely someone in his power circle would be able to connect him to Welch. I could get to Welch if I really wanted to.

3. Shatner's character attracts what he thinks he doesn't want: Phyllis Diller. This is SO relevant. You always attract what you un-consciously think is right for you. In the TV show, Diller is actually an old flame. She represents sex to him, or at least did at one time. This is so Freudian. In order to get what you want, you have to get clear inside of the old programs. Until you do, you won't get what you say you want, you'll get what you unconsciously want.

Finally, Shatner's mumble at the end about suing "those people" is also revealing.

It shows Shatner's character is still a victim, powerless to the world unless he resorts to the one thing he can trust: the legal system.

Again, I loved the episode on Boston Legal.

Just remember it was a spoof.

PS -- Attracting Phyllis Diller is not a bad thing. This brilliant comedian used to make me laugh when I was a kid watching TV. She still makes me laugh. She also learned about success from the same book I did: The Magic of Believing. She looks radiant even today, when she's close to 90 years old. You keep rocking the house, Phyllis.

PPS -- Denny Crain needs to put down his guns and ego and enroll in my Miracles Coaching program. Maybe then he could really attract Racquel Welch.

"What was my single turning point?"

A reader watched my new DVD, Humbug, and was apparently impressed with it.

He emailed me this question:

"Was there one point in your life that was the turn around? I often ask people who've obviously hitched themselves to a Saturn 5 rocket the same question."

I get that question a lot.

I've been thinking about it long and hard.

I know that taking on the attitude that anything is possible is part of the answer; so is knowing the Law of Attraction and the idea that getting clear leads to preferred results; so is always saying yes to life; and so is the idea of being ruthlessly honest about your desires.

But those are mindsets I've developed over time.

They don't answer the question about the single event that changed my life.

The thing is, there's no "one point" where everything shifted for me. It was more a series of defining moments, some more memorable than others. For example:

Landing the book deal to write The AMA Complete Guide to Small Business Advertising for the American Marketing Association back in 1993, was a marker for me. I wasn't paid much money (almost none) but it was my first book deal with a traditional publisher and the project made me feel accomplished and important. It also got me more clients and more speaking engagements. (I still love the book and use it myself, though sadly it's now out of print. Some of it ended up in my new book, Hypnotic Writing.)

Recording my program, The Power of Outrageous Marketing for Nightingale-Conant in 1997, was another turning point for me, one I had longed to have for over ten years. People who knew that company and their wonderful products began to treat me like I was a deity in the marketing world. That also influenced my own sense of value. (That's also when I raised my fees. ) The program still sells like crazy today, and I'm still very proud of it. (One of my favorite sections is where I stage an interview with the great circus showman and master marketer, P.T. Barnum.)

Certain people helped me step up to a new level, as well.

Paul Hartunian changed my life. This publicity genius who once sold the Brooklyn Bridge as a PR stunt and got on Johnny Carson for it, once spent three hours over dinner in Houston telling me how to change my business. I took notes. I acted. Paul's giving was a defining moment in my career. I'll never forget him. He's one of my heros.

Mandy Evans has been a "miracles coach" in my life for more than twenty years. This wonderful author of such books as Travelling Free has always been only a phone call away. Whenever I feel stuck and ready for the next level, I call her. I love her. She helps me get clear.

Bob Proctor -- a living legend in the self-help movement -- changed my life when he politely nudged me to publish the little book I was fearful about releasing, Spiritual Marketing. That book became an Amazon bestseller twice, got me into The New York Times, and led to my rewriting it and seeing J. Wiley publish it as the now long running classic, The Attractor Factor. And of course The Attractor Factor got me into the movie The Secret, which led to my being on Larry King, eXtra TV, Time, Newsweek and...well, you get the idea.

Obviously, there's no one event that transformed me.

If you want to know more, I've written about my journey through life in such books as Adventures Within and of course The Attractor Factor. They reveal other defining moments and the people who triggered them for me.

I really wish there was a simple answer to the question of what was my turning point moment, so we could both learn from it.

But what may be better is to assume every moment is your turn around one, and act from that perspective.

Life would then take on a glow.

Backed into a corner, and forced to say something was the one thing that changed my career, I'd give credit to the Internet.

I began as an Internet skeptic in the early 1990s. I didn't believe all the hype about gold in cyberspace.

I was wrong.

I later wrote one of the first books about online marketing (CyberWriting).

And later, when Mark Joyner urged me to let him release my first e-book (Hypnotic Writing), I began to taste fame and fortune.

So I have to give credit to being active online as a turning point in my career. (Note I said active online. I was and am busy creating and promoting products, not waiting for the world to come to my door.)

The Internet let me take what I was doing locally and distribute it to the world.

But, as you can see, it was one of many defining moments.

Maybe the best way to wrap this up is with the following story:

I'm hearing from people from my past who saw the movie The Secret and then searched for me online. When they get to my main site, they write me and ask something like, "Are you the same Joe Vitale I worked with thirty years ago?"

One gent did that recently. Turns out we had worked at Exxon together long, long ago.

He saw me on Larry King and couldn't believe my level of success. He wrote to me saying, "I wish I had known what a gem I was hanging around back then."

I thought, what if each of us treated each other like we were gems already -- just unrecognized and maybe unpolished.

Wouldn't that single change of perspective make every moment of our lives a turning point?

As Goethe wrote, "Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them become what they are capable of being."

Kirk's Smile

I smile every time I see a picture of little Kirk.

This little boy seems deliriously happy.

I'm told he often lays on a mat and kicks his feet for long periods of time.

He loves it and laughs as he plays.

But Kirk couldn't always do that.

Early on, he couldn't even smile.

About three years ago Kevin Hogan told me about a little boy he met named Kirk. Kirk suffered a pediatric stroke a few weeks after birth. Apparently this can happen to babies, more often than anyone likes to know.

Kevin asked me to help him raise money for medical operations, and I did.

As a result, Kirk is moving, a little, and smiling, a lot.

Kirk sends me little "I love you" messages and photos -- by email via his mother -- and every one of them makes me smile.

I received one the other day and stared at it for minutes, looking at Kirk's contagiously happy smile, and feeling drawn into the loving spirit of this child.

It feels good to help someone of such a divine nature, who seems happy to be where he is in life; no complaints, no bickering, no bitterness.

Who knows why someone like Kirk comes into the world and instantly has a health challenge?

Is it karma? Reincarnation? Or - ?

Maybe it's a divine test for us -- not Kirk, as he is Buddha happy right now, but a test for you and me -- it's us who seem to be challenged by his situation. We are the ones being asked to grow here, not Kirk.

Truth is, I don't know the why.

But I do know that when something is in my experience, it's up for me to heal.

So I'm doing my part.

I'm helping Kirk, and I hope you will, too.

Kirk is my super hero.

I wish I could always be so accepting of life.

So master photographer Rodney Bursiel dropped by, set up movie set lights, moved me around like I was a super model, and then spent an hour taking some incredible shots.

I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. Rodney is a genius at turning an ordinary moment everyone else takes for granted into a masterpiece of symbol and power.

Google just told me they will now print and mail any message in your gmail account - for free.

Whether you want a printed record of one message or an entire database of a thousand messages, Google will print and snail mail it to you, at no charge.

The plan is to print the selected messages on recycled paper, with ads on the back of each page. You won't be able to hand these pages in at your next meeting but they will be useful for records and research.

I'll fill in the blank in a second, but first let me ask you a question --

Are you aware of Mark Joyner's work?

(No, he didn't say the above quote.)

He's a genius at Internet marketing, but his life is all about something bigger.That guy is wired to make changes happen in the world. I think that's all that matters for him, really. I think that becomes clearer and clearer to people each day as they watch what he does.

For example, he's just written an extraordinarily profound book. Without question it's the best thing he's ever written. His last book I said was "the first marketing breakthrough in 50 years" and I meant it.

Serving Love

I love gadgets.

The smaller, the better.

The more powerful, the better.

The more unique, the better.

When my four-year-old Fujitsu Lifebook started to get too sluggish, I started thinking about a new one.

I love my Blackberry 8700C for getting email and answering phone calls, but trying to view web sites on it requires a microscope. I wanted one of those new ultra-light warp-speed too-cool "laptops" to carry on planes and use out by the pool.

I looked at the new 0q0 long and hard. It's under one pound and does everything but transport me from here to your house. But the website is poorly done, the model is back ordered for almost three months, and the device isn't much bigger than my Blackberry, anyway.

I then considered the new Fujitsu Lifebook P1610. It's about 2 pounds and can come as a double-duty tablet screen PC as well as a regular screen Windows unit.

I also knew there are lots of other makes and models out there. Trying to decide which one to get for me was getting confusing.

I bought a few gadget magazines.

I poked around online doing research.

I even went into a retail computer store, which amazingly didn't have a single ultra-light to show me.

"They're all on our site," the clerk told me.

Yea, but I'm in your store, I thought, and I have money in my pocket to spend right now.

So I wrote to Fujitsu and asked them which model they would recommend from their giant catalog of products.

I also wrote to Dynamism, a popular gadget site that's been around for nine years. They specialize in selling Japanese products to the US market. I wanted to know what model they would suggest, too.

Fujitsu never replied.

That was over a week go and they still haven't replied. Very disappointing. I was a Fujitsu customer and was all set to be one again. But they ignored me.

Dynamism wrote back quickly.

They suggested the Panasonic R6. It's 2 pounds and has an 8 hour battery life.

I bought it.

It arrived yesterday. I had some questions about operating it, so I called Dynamism. They answered the phone every time. There was never a wait. Never put on hold.

And when I asked one tech guy there if I could ask a few more questions, he laughed and said, "You can ask me anything you like. I'm here for you."

Last night Nerissa and I went out with our friend Mark Ryan. The Mississippi waitress who took care of us had off the charts high energy, Southern charm, and a smile that made my heart sing. We loved her and her spirit.

When we asked her what kept her so happy while she served people, she said, "I'm trying to make a small difference in people's lives."

She ended up sitting with us at our table, after dinner, and talking to us for almost an hour.

That's service.

That's love.

And whether it's from a computer store or a waitress, we all want it.

Chasing Moments

I spent part of yesterday in San Antonio with a dear friend. We talked at length about life and spirituality.

I told him that most people are "out" of the moment.

They are looking for the next deal, next car, next house, next pay raise, next check...not realizing that the point of power, the true miracle, is right here.

The quest for the "stuff" is a grand illusion. There's nothing wrong with any of it, as long as you know it's part of the game of life.

But most people think it will bring lasting happiness. It won't. As soon as you achieve it or attract it, you'll desire something else.

You'll be chasing the next moment.

I told my friend about the Adam Sandler movie, Click. The essence of the movie is that Adam is trying to fast-forward through life. He does, too. But near the end he realizes he has missed out on life itself.

I do my best not to leave the moment. I still do, of course. I'm learning, too.

But I do my best to stay here, in this moment, knowing that as I do, the next moment takes care of itself. As long as I fully participate in this moment, the next ones are just as good and often incredibly better.

In fact, when you stay in the moment, you attract more of the good things in life and appreciate them longer.

The key is to be here now, with awareness and gratitude.

My friend said the message about being in the moment caused a shift in him.

I hope it does with you, as well.

This really is it.

Attracting the Great Lotto Publicity Stunt

Unless you get a little uncomfortable now and then, you're probably playing it safe.

That's fine, unless you have a big dream you haven't fulfilled yet.

That's when you may have to leave your comfort zone.

Here's what I mean...

In 2006 I made a decision that changed my life. It involved hiring one of the most notorious media pranksters in the world.

I hired him to create one of the largest publicity stunts in modern history.

Why?

To do what?

I knew my book, The Attractor Factor, changed lives. I had and have hundreds of stories from readers to prove it.

But I also knew there was a whole world that never heard of it, despite it being a bestseller twice. I wanted that world to notice my book. And to reach them I was going to have to do something, well, outrageous.

So I attracted the right man to pull off the right stunt, and we attracted national media attention for my book.

This was a daring thing for me to do.

We planned to "win" the largest lotto jackpot in the history of the US.

And for a few days, we did just that.

The entire event could have backfired and led to bad publicity.

It didn't.

If you're not watching Donny Deutsch's TV show The Big Idea, then you are missing some of the most inspiring and informative programming on television today.

This show takes away every excuse you can come up with for not making it in America today.

Donny interviews people with insane ideas, stupid ideas, wild ideas, outrageous ideas, and people with no education, no money, no experience, no connection, no hope -- all of whom go on to make fortunes.

One time he did a show on kids who became millionaires. Another time on "losers" who became billionaires.

This has to be one of the best shows on TV for learning that YOU CAN DO IT, TOO if you believe in yourself and take action.

"Change News"

Like you, I've often gotten bad news.

Something I wanted to happen didn't turn out the way I hoped.

Like you, I've been disappointed.

But I've learned that that "bad news" was often good news in disguise.

Something much better happened instead - often something I could never even imagine.

So I think we need a new phrase for "bad news."

I suggest Change News.

Change News can be our new code for something that didn't go as we planned but will mean a new, better direction; we just might not see where the new direction is taking us yet.

In other words, the next time some "bad news" comes your way, reframe it in your mind to be "change news."

Yes, you didn't get what you said you wanted, but maybe, just maybe, you're about to get something even better. You just have to wait out the change to see where it leads. The "bad" simply means "change."

To help you understand this, here's what I wrote in The Attractor Factor:

I remember reading a helpful passage in one of my favorite books, Breaking the Rules by Kurt Wright. It goes like this:

“Have you ever noticed how easy it is to look back on events that happened a year or more in the past and see the perfection in them? For most of us this is true even for situations which seemed tragic, horrible or even devastating at the time. Now, if it is possible to see the perfection in those things a year later, doesn’t it make sense that the perfection must be there in the moment it happens, too?”

Wow! What a freeing statement! It causes you to look for the positive in everything, and to look for it right now.

Look for the positive in the negative -- or at least trust there will be a positive in the "negative" -- and you change bad news to change news.

Small, Selfish Things or, Gandhi asks?

Sometimes folks wonder why the focus of people who read my books or watch the movie The Secret is on things like attracting a new car or feeling happier. Some regard those as "small, selfish things."

Truth is, so many people are unhappy, unhealthy, and just plain broke that using the Law of Attraction to get a car, or a house, or a job, or happiness, is simply the most noble thing they can do at this time. It's also exactly what they should do.

It's not selfish; it's actually a step toward self-actualization.

I also know that at a certain point you set your sights higher. After you've manifested a car or two, or more money, or a better relationship, you start expanding your desires. There are already numerous people in the world doing just that: using the Law of Attraction to cure cancer, AIDS, poverty, and more.

Oprah is a good example. She openly admits to using The Secret and is doing historic work in third world countries.

Larry King is another, with his cardiac foundation.

George Foreman is still another, with his youth centers.

Many of the teachers in The Secret have huge causes, too.

Jack Canfield wants to transform politics.

Lisa Nichols is going to Africa to help people there.

I'm working on erasing homelessness and poverty, both of which I've experienced.

I'm also helping people (with the help of Scott York) build their business as well as their body with www.yourbusinessbody.com

Then there are the people you've never heard of, who are using the Law of Attraction to make a huge difference, such as the woman I wrote about a few weeks ago, who is raising money to help women with cancer get beauty treatments so they feel better about themselves.

And there's the female comedian who is raising audiotaped greetings and applause for troops overseas so they feel loved.

The list goes on.

Since the cultural mindset with the bigger problems is one of victim, those issues may not be healed overnight. But rest assured, there are wonderful people working on those problems, and using ideas in The Secret and The Attractor Factor to get the job done.

But here's what's more important:

Instead of wondering what everyone else is doing, ask what you are doing.

How are you helping the world?

What causes are you creating or supporting?

How are you contributing to the betterment of the planet?

As Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

At the Airport

I'm sitting in the Phoenix airport waiting for my flight home. The place is packed to the nth degree. Where are all these people going?

Moments ago a fellow spotted me and came to say hi. He's been on my email list for years. I met him, his wife, their son, and their dog.

The other night I met George Forman. The line to meet him was far longer than the one to meet me. I was in his line too. I'll tell you what he and I talked about on another post.

My talk yesterday went well. I was stunned that most of the audience had not heard of the movie The Secret. Talk about proof that you must keep marketing and never stop. Even after two Oprah shows and three Larry King shows, a large even gigantic part of the world still doesn't know what the fuss is all about.

You must keep marketing.

While it's flattering that someone recognized me here at the airport, by far most of the people here never heard of me.

Just now my celebrity spotting friend came back and asked to have a picture with me. He runs www.pettech.net.

First Class Abundance

About ten years ago Bob Procter told me if you aren't flying First Class, you're still in poverty consciousness.

It took almost all of those ten years for me to agree with him. I resisted paying the extra money, thinking I should use it for something else.

Well, that's scarcity thinking. There's enough money for First Class and everything else IF your mindset is one of abundance.

Today I'm there. Today I only fly First Class.

Is Action Always Necessary?

When using the ideas in my book The Attractor Factor or in the movie The Secret, you don't always need to take action.

Sometimes -- often -- what you want will come about almost without you doing anything.

More often than not, though, you have to do something.

When Larry King calls me on a Wednesday night to appear on his show a second time the very next day, my part is to rush to the airport and get to CNN in LA.

I had to do a lot of sprinting to make it to the show.

That's action.

In my book The Attractor Factor I call what you need to do "inspired action."

If you get an inner prompt to make a call or buy a book or attend an event or apply for a job, then honor that nudge.

Act on it.

That nudge is coming from the part of you connected to the greater picture. It can lead you to the fulfillment of your goal. It will send the nudge, but you have to act on it.

My other point about action is that when you are clear about what you want and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it, the action you take will be effort-free.

I've written about this before. I write a tremendous amount of books. For many, it would seem like work. For me, it is effort free. I'm certainly working, but the mindset I have is that this is as natural as breathing.

The Secret leads many to believe action isn't necessary. Action may or may not be necessary. It depends on you and what you want. My message today is to pay attention to the signs and jump when it feels like it's part of the divine plan.

When you do, miracles happen.

When you're in the flow and doing what is right for you, magic and miracles do happen. The rest of the world will see you "working." But you'll be enjoying the divine play of life.

Starter Mansions

The home we looked at in San Clemente two weeks ago turned out to be what I now call a starter mansion.

I'm after something bigger.

The above picture is closer to what I'm now dreaming about.

It's a breathtaking paradise estate spreading over 9.5 acres. Virtually everything you see in that picture is part of the estate.

It's described as "...ideal for entertaining within your own resort complete w/a water theme park, a lagoon, waterfalls, slides, a pirate ship, caves, an entertaining guest pool house. Enjoy your own lake, a covered pavilion, separate 2 bedroom/guest house..."

I don't think this one is a starter mansion.

On Being Bald

Yesterday I heard that some of the attackers of The Secret are now personally attacking me.

One of their observations is that I'm bald, and so maybe the Law of Attraction doesn't really work.

I've never regarded being bald as a problem. If I did, I could attract all sorts of solutions to it, from toupees to plugs to hair transplants to whathaveyou. I'm simply not interested.

I'm surprised the persuasion experts are resorting to personal attacks, but maybe they're just jealous that they're not bald, too.

That makes my head turn like a curious puppy, because I didn't go on Oprah.

But then it occured to me that maybe Oprah showed a clip of me from the movie The Secret.

Larry King aired three specials on The Secret and I was a guest on two of them. Oprah aired two specials on The Secret but I wasn't on either as a guest.

But if I was seen on Oprah, that's bragging rights.

Inside The Stinking Rose

Right after my second appearance on the Larry King Live show, my limo driver took me to The Stinking Rose, a garlic themed restaurant in Beverly Hills.

This is a picture of my driver, Raul. He's digging into a plate of chicken that was baked with forty cloves of garlic.

This is one the restaurant's appetizers: a plate of anchovies.

I loved The Stinking Rose and can't wait to go back.

Maybe next time Larry King will join me.

After Larry King and The Stinking Rose

Whew. Flying from Austin to LA and back again for five minutes of national TV air time is exhausting and exhilarating.

I loved the show and loved how Larry asked honest even skeptical questions. I really enjoyed being with him. I could get used to this. Judging from the emails I'm getting of praise for how I appeared on the show, I think people liked it.

I still can't believe my limo driver took me out to eat at the Stinking Rose. He's the same driver I tipped last week and wrote about. I didn't request him but there he was, taking me to CNN to meet Larry King once again.

The Stinking Rose is a garlic themed restaurant. They have garlic martinis. And chicken cooked with forty gloves of garlic. Even garlic condoms.

What a great evening. Even a young lady saw me and said she loves my book The Attractor Factor. Ah, fame.

Right now I'm having a drink on a deck overlooking Hollywood. Its a cool wonderful evening.

Roopa's Stress Relief

I never told you but the last few weeks have been stressful beyond measure.

My emergency surgery was one thing. But there were health complications that scared me. I didn't mention it because I didn't want any "worry" energy on it.

Then the sucess of the movie The Secret brought me added fame. But it also turned old friends into anti-secret warriors. That hurt.

On top of my healing and recovery I had a new book deadline and travels to make. Right now I'm in San Diego. Its four AM as I peck this out on my Blackberry.

I'm saying all of this to lead to my breakthrough. I spent an entire day with Dr. Roopa Chari and her family and feel ready to take on the world.

I have rarely met such loving, generous, spiritual, happy and healthy people.

Roopa helped me years ago with high blood pressure. Now her whole family is working as a team to heal me. I wish I could find the words to express my wonder at what they do.

Their office is full of space-age devices right off the Starship Enterprise. Combined with Roopa's medical background, they are able to accomplish what others call miracles.

I'm not the only one they helped, of course. Gonzo NLP creator Richard Bandler is also a client.

Roopa's mother cooked home made Indian food for me. It was incredible. I warned them I am moving in or moving close.

I want more of their magic.

TIPS

I hired a driver in Rome five years ago. We had a great time until at the end of the day he said I owed him more money than we had agreed on.

He did not get a tip.

Yesterday I hired a driver to take us from LA to San Clemente and on to San Diego. He was wonderful. When Nerissa needed medicine he instantly handled it.

When I needed a bathroom he instantly crossed five lanes and found one. When we met friends and stayed later than planned he never complained.

I gave him a 200 percent tip.

I've made waitresses cry by giving them 100 percent tips.

TIPS mean 'to insure prompt service'.

It means more than that to me. It's all about feeling good, rewarding good service, tithing, spreading prosperity and living abundance.

I love giving astonishing tips when I meet astonishing servers.

The CBS Early Show just aired a special on The Secret. My bud and costar James Ray went head to head with a skeptic. I liked that James said you can't just wish for results. You have to take action too. I also love that the inspiring messages in The Secret are getting such worldwide coverage. It doesn't hurt that I was on the CBS show this morning too.

I'm in LA on a secret mission. Stepped out of the baggage area at the airport and a stranger recognized me. He's seen The Secret twelve times. He wanted my autograph. Wild.

Then people started calling and emailing and even text messaging me. Apparently CBS News just aired a story about The Secret and I was in it.

I have no idea what I said or where they got the footage. I love this new way to get publicity. I sit here doing nothing and CBS airs my name to the nation.

The Missing Secret

People are still writing to me, raving about last Sunday's talk about The Missing Secret.

My main message -- spiced up with stories about attracting Playboy models and exotic rare cars like Francine -- was this:

1. The Universe -- call that huge superpower God, Divinty, Life, or whatever works for you -- is sending and receiving all the time. It's sending inspiration to you. It's receiving requests from you.

2. This "dialogue" is being filtered through your belief system.

3. The results you get are what happens from the above two steps. How you read those results is also based on your belief system.

My point is that to change your results, you have to change your beliefs.

I call it "getting clear" in my book The Attractor Factor. It's The Missing Secret in virtually all self-help and personal improvement programs.

I gave three ways to change beliefs in my presentation. In short, they are:

1. Question your beliefs. I offered two ways to do this at the event. One is with the work of Byron Katie.

2. Erase all memories of limitations. I offered the ho'oponopono method explained in Zero Limits as a tool to clean the slate.

3. Get a Miracles Coach. This is the most powerful of all. It's the one thing I do in my own life to keep me up and pumped, prolific and prosperous.

This blog post can't possibly explain the above with any depth, but I wanted to share the message with you. You can begin to change your reality/results right now, by following the above.

The Red Lipstick Campaign

I stood and signed books for almost four hours after my talk on Sunday at the World Wellness Weekend.

I met some fascinating people, including this beautiful lady in the picture with me, Cynthia Mann.

She started the Red Lipstick Campaign. It's loving cause is to give make-up and beauty treatment to women suffering from cancer. The idea is to help them realize they are still beautiful. They still have dignity.

I so love the idea that I told Cynthia I would pledge to help a female cancer patient right now. No questions asked.

On the way to the World Wellness Weekend in Austin, Texas, I met Laura Nichole, a Playboy model currently featured in a magazine called Natural Beauties.

We were both lost, trying to locate the event, and found it together. As we walked, she learned I was one of the featured speakers (which caused her to go orgasmic) and I discovered she's a Playboy model (which made my eyes dilate).

She was pretty proud (in a good way) of her pictures in Playboy.

I told her I could top that.

I'm on the cover of the recent edition of Austin All Natural magazine.

And I'm the centerfold, too.

Here we are holding up our magazines.

Laura's a sweetie with charm and a big heart, and we had a great time signing our pictures to each other.

Anyway...

Deepak Chopra spoke at the event Saturday night and had a nearly full room. I spoke yesterday and every seat was taken. People had to lean against the walls, sit on the floor, and stand in the hall.

Of course, Deepak and I were in different sized rooms, but still.

They expected a few hundred people to attend my talk on The Missing Secret but almost a thousand packed the house. My main point was that counter-intentions are keeping you from getting the results you want. The whole thing was videotaped, so you'll get to see it one day soon.

I'm exhausted from the event but it's a good exhaustion. It's exhilarating to see so many people ready to learn how to transform their lives and go for their dreams.

Sure beats being a victim and rolling over, playing dead.

The Option Method

If you read my book, Adventures Within, you know I've been around the block a few times when it comes to personal growth, spiritual searching and self-discovery.

One of the most powerful and transformative methods I learned along the way is called The Option Method. It's a simple method of questioning beliefs. I learned it first-hand from Barry Neil Kaufman, author of such gems as To Love Is to Be Happy With.

Barry learned it from the creator of the method, Bruce Di Marsico. I was just given a copy of the late Di Marsico's little book on the method, called The Option Method: Unlock Your Happiness With Five Simple Questions.

The book is very philosophical and thought-provoking. It reads more like notes from Socrates than a Ray Bradbury novel. But every nugget is mind-expanding.

The section in the back by Deborah Mendel, on how to use the Option Method questions for yourself, is worth gold. These are the very questions I still use today, sometimes naturally and automatically in consultations with clients, but more often then not just with myself, to discover and release my own limiting beliefs to experiencing happiness right now.

I urge you to read this little-known classic.

Is Attraction a Law?

Besides Larry King interviewing me last November, I'm being interviewed every day by other biggies, including Time magazine, Bottomline Personal, and Newsweek.

They all want to know if the law of attraction is really a law.

They all agree that gravity is, but they aren't so sure about attraction.

The people who say attraction is not a law cite examples such as, "I know gravity works. When I drop a book off a skyscraper, it will hit the ground. That's proof of the law of gravity."

Agreed.

They then go on to say, "When I try to attract something, sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. So it isn't a law."

Not agreed.

Here's why.

Saying you tried to attract something and failed is like saying you tried to drop a book from a skyscraper to hit a particular spot and you missed. Because you missed the spot, you say gravity doesn't exist.

This is a little like telling a parachutist that because they didn't land on the red dot in the field, but instead landed in the trees, gravity doesn't exist.

Obviously gravity exists. You just don't know how to use it to get what you want in any specific way.

Same with the law of attraction.

When you focus on attracting a new car, but instead attract a moped, it isn't because the law wasn't in effect; it's because you didn't work with the law.

Everything you have is what you attracted.

You just did it unconsciously.

No biggie.

No need to feel bad or beat yourself up.

The idea now is to awaken.

A Legend Moves On

I'm sad to report that Dottie Walters passed away.

She was a loving and supportive lady, always inspiring others.

She wrote the riveting introduction to my book, The Seven Lost Secrets of Success.

She helped me and countless others get started in speaking and writing.

I knew she passed away earlier this month, but it's taken me a while to recover from the news and to be able to post anything here at all.

The Other Secret

Last Sunday, at Pat O'Bryan's recent unseminar, Bruce Burns (husband of my chief assistant, Suzanne), found me alone on the balcony getting some fresh air.

He saw an opportunity.

He decided to ask me some questions.

He said he wanted to create a product by Tuesday night.

But he had no idea what kind of product.

He just had the intention to create one, put up a website for it, and start selling it, all by Tuesday night.

I listened to him talk, and asked a few questions of my own. I've always felt that everyone has a treasure inside them that others will pay for, but virtually all of us are oblivious to it. We just need someone on the outside to listen and help us recognize it.

Bruce began to explain he has a gift of teaching people how to negotiate in various areas, from the sales floor to the living room, with clients to with kids.

He's also a skilled speaker and is a master of hypnotic story telling.

Since it was Sunday and he wanted a product for sale by Tuesday, I urged him to record his how-to negotiate info. Recording would be easy and fast. While he might be able to write a special report by Tuesday, it seemed his natural abilities led him to make a recording first. He might later transcribe the recording and turn it into a special report, an e-book, or even a full length published book.

But first things (and easy things) first.

He then asked a few questions about how to build a website quick, where to put his recording online, etc.

This entire spontaneous consultation took less than twenty minutes.

Bruce now had an idea for a product and a sense of how to put it online.

Now here's what he did that almost no one else does:

He took action.

Is "The Secret" a Lie?

It's the ebb and flow of life.

Sooner or later the critics come flying out of their dark hiding places and start finding holes in anything that is popular. Start talking about global warming and eventually others will start talking about global cooling. And both will have sound arguments to defend their cases.

This is just beginning to happen with critics of the movie The Secret. One recent article even went as far as to say The Secret is a lie. And even dangerous. The article defends its position with mental images about the poor in Africa, or children dying of diseases.

It's a pretty bleak view and a strongly worded emotional argument.

So, is The Secret a lie?

Of course not.

It's no more a lie than anything else taken out of context and reinterpreted in a filtered, limited, negative way.

The movie is all about one idea. It doesn't pretend to tell you the secret-s of the universe. Just one of them.

And is The Secret dangerous?

At most, it may be guilty of leaving out some important extra steps to creating your ideal life.

If I were involved in the making of the movie (I'm in the movie but I didn't produce it), I'd also point out there is a law of right action, too.

Also, there are often counter intentions that need cleared for The Secret to work.

And I'd make sure people knew that feeling is more important than thought in creating your own reality.

But maybe those topics will be discussed in the sequel.

Still, the movie reveals the Law of Attraction in a powerful, inspired and inspiring way.

It's not at all dangerous.

But it's so easy to be a critic. Simply focus on the negative, find situations or people who the item won't or didn't work for, and then condemn the item.

I could take virtually any self-help, personal development, financial success, science of influence, rules of engagement, or any other book, course or topic out there and with little effort find situations where it won't or didn't work.

Critics do that all the time.

The media does that, too.

What would be the point?

It would be staying in the negative and keeping people feeling bad.

How would that serve anyone?

I prefer to inspire myself and others.

In fact, my next book, Zero Limits, explains that what you have to do to change the entire planet is change yourself.

My own take is that The Secret will work for anyone who will apply it.

What about the people in Africa?

Well, do you think they know The Secret?

Hardly.

What about children dying?

Well, do you think they know The Secret?

Hardly.

And what if someone who knew The Secret ended up in Africa or with a disease?

Obviously (as the movie points out), they could change themselves and their situation.

That's the whole point of knowing The Secret.

Rather than condemning the movie by citing examples where people don't even know the principle let alone practice it, I think a wiser stance is to find how The Secret works, demonstrate it in your own life, and let your life be a model for others to be inspired by.

I think that's what the teachers in the movie, including myself, are trying to do.

All in all, I'd rather be a creator than a critic.

By creating a life worth living, I make a difference in the world -- first in my own life, and then in the lives of others who are inspired to dare something worthy, too.

The Secret isn't a lie; it's a law.

You just have to apply it.

PS - I got a traffic ticket a week ago. I attracted it to me -- by not obeying the law. The law is there for me to obey or not. Follow it and I get good results. Don't follow it and I may get results I don't want. Traffic law can be considered less important or concrete than the law of gravity. But it's still a law. So is the law revealed in the movie The Secret. Go watch it again.

TIP: Most people who criticize The Secret are doing so because they want it to work but can't seem to make it work. One of the biggest reasons The Secret doesn't instantly work for someone is due to lack of forgiveness. An entire culture can experience this. But it can be changed with one person forgiving. Namely you. I'm doing this myself, and constantly going through my mental files to see who or what needs forgiven in my life (including me). For help, consider the Subliminal Manifestation DVDs or of course Miracles Coaching. And dare something worthy, that will inspire yourself and others, rather than raining on a parade that could heal millions. Don't be seduced by the dark side. Go toward the light.
